Tips To Keep The Plumber Away

Most pipes in occupied homes are okay during the winter. However, if you are planning to take a trip in the winter, such as during the Christmas Holiday, you might want to take precautions to prevent your plumbing system from freezing. The simplest way is to leave the furnace on low and open the cabinet door under sinks. However, if there is a power outage or your furnace fails, your pipes could still freeze. A better way to winterize your home is to have a professional drain the system.

If you are having holiday company, the extra food and people in your home can strain your sewers and drains. The top causes for clogged pipes are grease, soap, hair and food.

When grease is washed down the sinks it sticks to the sides of the sewer pipes and over time may result in build up and clogging of the entire system. Raw sewage could then overflow into your home or into the streets.

Never pour grease into toilets or sinks. Put scraps into the trash or in a disposal. Use strainers to catch large food items from entering the pipes.

Please feel free to forward this maintenance tip to your friends and/or family members so they too can maintain their real estate investment.
