We enjoy trying to make sure that your home stays your most valuable asset.  One of the best ways we know to help, is to pass along some simple maintenance tips that most people don’t know could save thousands of dollars.

Decking

Many houses, new and old have decks. The newer ones are most commonly built out of pressure treated lumber. This is a good idea to ensure durability and minimal maintenance. These decks can warp and will occasionally need to be re-nailed and maintained.

A standard lumber deck can deteriorate rapidly if it is not covered with some type of preservative. As the deck decays, replace the damaged wood with pressure treated lumber until the entire deck is fixed. Always ensure that the deck complies with local housing and building standards.

There are two options to clean a wood deck, pressure washing or bleach. A pressure washer is much faster, but it can destroy the surface of the deck. If you use a pressure washer, test it first to make sure it does not damage the wood.

Please feel free to forward this maintenance tip to your friends and/or family members so they too can maintain their real estate investment.
