We enjoy trying to make sure that your home stays your most valuable asset. One of the best ways we know to help, is to pass along some simple maintenance tips that most people don’t know could save thousands of dollars.
Disposal
Garbage Disposals can have problems due to rust build up and jammed items. If a disposal suddenly stops and emits a low humming sound, a bone, bottle cap or some other object is probably lodged in it.
When a garbage disposal does not work at all, check for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker. Then check the power, to the wall switch for continuous feed models or the stopper switch for batch feed models.
If the flywheel is stuck, use the supplied jam wrench that came with the disposal system, turn the system off then use the wrench to back up the rotor from underneath. If you do not have a jam wrench try a wooden spoon. Then press the reset button.
If the disposal grinds too slowly, run cold water while operating. Be sure not to deposit inappropriate items in the disposal. If the disposal's problem is still not fixed, call a professional plumber. Removing objects from a disposal can be extremely dangerous.
Please feel free to forward this maintenance tip to your friends and/or family members so they too can maintain their real estate investment.
