We enjoy trying to make sure that your home stays your most valuable asset. One of the best ways we know to help, is to pass along some simple maintenance tips that most people don’t know could save thousands of dollars.
Too Close for Comfort
Some homes have trees that are too close for comfort. This may include trees that have branches rubbing along the exterior of the home. This could lead to scratched and damage windows or siding that needs to be prematurely replaced or repaired.
If limbs are closer than 36 inches to the roof, they can be a ladder for insects and other small animals. This could lead to more damage from pests.
Untrimmed limbs make roof and gutter cleaning difficult. This can cause drainage problems.
Trees too close to a home can put pressure on the foundation. This could cause walls to weaken.
Roots can grow under a home's foundation causing cracks or an uneven surface.
When you plant a tree, consider how wide and tall it will grown. Medium sized trees should be planted 30 feet away from a home, small trees should be 8 feet away.
Also, remember to be considerate of the neighbor's views and trees by planting 30 feet away from property lines.
Evergreens planted on the north or west side help with wind protection.
Deciduous trees on the south or west side of the house keep a home cool in the summer and give sun access in the winter.
Plant shrubs and trees that are compatible with utility lines.
Careful planning help provide you with the maximum benefits trees provide.
Please feel free to forward this maintenance tip to your friends and/or family members so they too can maintain their real estate investment.
