We enjoy trying to make sure that your home stays your most valuable asset. One of the best ways we know to help, is to pass along some simple maintenance tips that most people don’t know could save thousands of dollars.
Automatic Sprinklers
Automatic sprinklers can be an efficient tool for irrigating your landscaping. In order to prevent water waste you need be certain that your sprinkler system is working properly and correctly installed.
First, plant similar types of trees and shrubs together, this is a procedure called hydro zoning. Next, adjust your sprinklers to water according to the needs of the plant groupings.
Adjust your watering to the season taking into account you will need more water in the summer than in the spring or fall.
Water only in the evening. By not watering in the day you reduce the amount of water lost in evaporation.
Don't water after or during a storm. Natural weather provides up to 40% of what a typical lawn needs.
Do a routine maintenance check on your sprinklers. If not properly set, you may be wasting water or damaging your landscaping.
Remember most sprinklers are programmed to run between 3:30am and 5:30am. This can make it harder to remember to do a test run.
About every four weeks turn on your sprinkler system during the day and perform an inspection.
Check to see, if any water is hitting the street or sidewalk.
Is there anything that prevents the water from reaching landscaped areas?
Are there breaks or leaks in the pipes?
Are there any missing, broken or clogged sprinkler heads?
Are any heads tilted in the wrong direction?
Is water reaching where it is supposed to? If not the pressure is too low.
Is water overshooting the landscaping? Are there leaking sprinkler heads, or any dry areas? If so your pressure is too high.
This monthly maintenance may save you hundreds of dollars on your water bill as well as prevent damages to your sprinkler system.
We are here to talk to you about your automatic sprinkler system and any other irrigation needs.
Please feel free to forward this maintenance tip to your friends and/or family members so they too can maintain their real estate investment.
