We enjoy trying to make sure that your home stays your most valuable asset. One of the best ways we know to help, is to pass along some simple maintenance tips that most people don’t know could save thousands of dollars.
Fire Safety
According to the Report on Home Safety in America by the Home Safety Council, fires are the third cause of accidental injury and death.
It is important to use these safety measures to reduce the risk of fires in your home.
If you have small children, make sure one window in each child's room is easily opened.
Always stay close to the kitchen when cooking.
Keep flammable objects such as towels, bags, curtains and pot holders a minimum of three feet from the stove.
Never leave grills unattended. Make sure the grill is 10 feet from the house.
Keep lighters and matches out of the reach of children.
Turn space heaters off when going to bed or leaving the house.
Keep flammable objects away from your fireplace. Make sure your fireplace has a glass or metal screen.
Smoke outside and use a deep ashtray or water to extinguish cigarettes.
Never leave candles burning when you are not at home or in the room.
Children should not have access to candles or incense.
Store gasoline in a shed or garage and in a specialized container intended for gasoline.
Keep flammable products well secured.
Determine a fire escape route with your family. Pick somewhere to meet outside.
Make sure all family members know that the way to extinguish a small pan fire is to place a lid over the fire.
Teach children the meaning of "stop, drop and roll". Rolling over and over on the ground is the best way to put out flames on clothing.
Have a smoke alarm on all levels of your home. Put one in every bedroom. Replace the batteries once a year. Make sure to test alarms often.
Have a fire extinguisher available and know how to use it.
Don't have too many appliances plugged in at one time.
Have a qualified professional inspect furnaces, chimneys and fireplaces every year.
These simple things reminders can go along way to keep your family and your home safe.
Please feel free to forward this maintenance tip to your friends and/or family members so they too can maintain their real estate investment.
